January 2003: bare hull with engine fitted

These pictures were taken on a visit to the Sea Otter factory in mid-January 2003. They show Zinfandel’s aluminium hull just completed, with the engine already installed and the interior fit-out about to start.

The front and rear decks are a lot longer than those you’d expect to find on a Sea Otter. This is because of our non-standard choice of engine. The Beta Marine PropGen unit needed more space below the rear deck, and Sea Otter’s designers extended the front deck to match, otherwise the boat would have looked unbalanced. The result is a very sociable boat for a party of up to six people, with plenty of space for sitting out and watching the world go by.

The interior photo was taken from the front window, looking towards the stern of the boat. The aluminium bulkheads mark the end of the galley area; the bathroom is just beyond the one that appears on the left of the picture.
